Maglev Train Experience Hall Map
Outdoor Exhibit - Maglev Train History Hall

Experience the next-generation transportation technology: a train that floats above the ground without wheels.

The maglev train uses powerful magnets to lift and propel itself, eliminating the need for wheels.

An Environmentally Friendly Mode of Transportation

Because the train runs without touching the ground, it produces minimal noise and vibration, making it ideal for use in urban areas. Korea is the third country in the world to develop a maglev train, and the latest model is currently operating at the National Science Museum of Korea.

Featured Exhibit

  • KOMAG-01 Maglev Train

The KOMAG-01 model marks the beginning of Korea's first national initiative to develop a maglev train, making it a significant milestone in the country’s transportation history.

    • Year Developed: 1990
    • Levitation Type: Electromagnetic Suspension
    • Passenger Capacity: 4 people
  • HML-02 Maglev Train

The HML-02 model, developed by a private company after creating the HML-01 prototype, represents an early attempt at commercial maglev train development. It laid the groundwork for current maglev train designs.

    • Year Developed: 1991
    • Levitation Type: Electromagnetic Suspension
    • Passenger Capacity: 8 people
  • HML-03 Maglev Train

The HML-03 model was created for the 1993 Daejeon Expo to showcase advancements in science and technology, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience maglev train technology firsthand.

    • Year Developed: 1993
    • Levitation Type: Electromagnetic Suspension
    • Passenger Capacity: Approximately 120,000 visitors transported during the expo
  • UTM-01 Maglev Train

The UTM-01 model was Korea’s independent attempt to develop an urban-type maglev train. After numerous test runs on a research track, valuable data was collected, contributing significantly to the development of the maglev trains currently in operation.
